I have just tried out a fantastic new software program called SoundPixä (which is available at http://www.soundpix.com/). It allows you to take any JPEG picture and “embed” audio sound (as voice or music) into it. The file size of the combined picture with audio is quite small (approximately equal to the picture file size plus 100 KB per every 5 seconds of audio). You can then send this audio image to anybody with Microsoft Internet Explorer (Version 5.X or later) with a SoundPixä Plugin (available free at www.soundpix.com).
You can actually try a free version of “SoundPixä Sampler” at the website, and the full software version called “SoundPixä Plus” only costs $29.95*. The system requirements are a simple Pentium PC, 16 MB RAM, 12 MB free hard drive space, SoundBlaster compatible sound card (with speakers and microphone), Windows 98 or later, and MSIE 5.X or later. The installation only takes a minute or two, and then it’s just a simple three-step process to make your final creation … load the image … load or record the audio … and save it!
This is a great way to send family photos with either actual sound of the event or a short description of the picture … or put the photo to music! Another usage might be vacation photos with a verbal explanation of the scene … or maybe photos of your home with a verbal inventory for insurance purposes.
As the company overview states: “If a picture is worth a thousand words, what is a picture with words worth?”
There really isn’t anything more to it, but the possibilities for its use are endless! Try it out and I’m sure you will like it! This is an exceptional product at a bargain price.
*NOTE: SoundPixä is offering a special price for the SoundPixä Plus software for members of the NJCC user group. If you order through their website from now to May 31, 2002, you will receive a $5 promotional discount. To get the discount, simply enter the code, "ug2002" in the shopping cart while ordering. |
