New Jersey Computer Club General Meeting

The regular second Wednesday monthly General Meeting of the New Jersey Computer Club was held at the North Branch Reformed Church starting at 6:30 PM. There were 27 members in attendance.

Fred Sabin presented Software Cinema’s “User Group Winter 2004 Photoshop Program” video CD. This presentation-in-a-box featured a very high quality CD-ROM with a series of digital editing training sessions featuring Adobe Photoshop. Members were very impressed with these sessions, but unfortunately very few have the Adobe Photoshop software to take advantage of this training technique.

There was no business meeting except for announcements. The Random Access Q&A period included a discussion of potential future programs, which will be the primary topic of discussion at the NJCC Executive Committee meeting scheduled for the NBRC for 7 PM on April 28th. All NJCC members are invited to come to this meeting.

John Beck then did an interesting presentation on the Intel Digital Home, where the Internet and broadcast worlds are integrated through a home wireless network. Consumer electronics and PC devices work together to create a pervasive digital media environment. For example, digital pictures or video edited on a PC can be easily accessed and displayed on a TV. Digital music can be shared and enjoyed between devices regardless of where it is stored within the home. Overall, the digital home will help deliver a richer, easier-to-use digital entertainment experience. The popularity of digitally formatted content, wider availability of broadband, and increased interest in home networks have acted as catalysts to usher in this new era. Add in the development of wireless network technology and the increasing sophistication of personal digital devices (MP3 players, digital cameras, PDAs, etc) and the groundwork is laid for the "digital home", where PCs and consumer electronics converge to create a convenient digital media environment.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,
Fred Sabin, President
