Minutes of the January 8, 2003

New Jersey Computer Club General Meeting

  • The regular monthly General Meeting of the New Jersey Computer Club was held at the North Branch Reformed Church starting at 6:30 PM. There were 44 members and guests in attendance.

  • John Beck led a very active “Random Access” Q&A period with Rich Byrne, Doug Beck and Jim Russ assisting him. This regular meeting feature has been extremely popular and well received by our membership and guests.

  • Fred welcomed all present and wished everybody a happy, healthy and prosperous 2003. Four guests introduced themselves and explained why they had attended the meeting.

  • The prior Minutes and Treasurer’s Reports were approved as posted on the NJCC website.

  • Fred then explained the decision of the NJCC Executive Committee at its December 17th meeting to temporarily suspend the computer refurbishing program until adequate resources to properly support this activity are available. In the interim, Lenny Laich will be the NJCC contact for any computer systems or components that may still be available for purchase.

  • John Beck announced the programs for the January 22nd and February 12th meetings, as well as future programs that he is trying to schedule. Details may be found on the njcc.org website.

  • Doug Beck, the Webmaster of the New Jersey Computer Club, made an absolutely excellent presentation on “PC Music Options”. He demonstrated how to acquire and use the software needed to download music using different clients such as Kazaa Lite, WinMX, LimeWire, and Morpheus.  He also showed how to create and organize (including changing identification tags) MP3 files from a CD collection, and how to play the MP3s on the computer using Nullsoft's WinAMP media player. His presentation was extremely well received by all that were present!

  • The meeting adjourned at 9:20 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Fred Sabin

President
