Minutes of the November 13,
2002
New Jersey Computer Club General Meeting
The
second Wednesday of the month General Meeting of the New Jersey Computer Club
was held at the North Branch Reformed Church. Approximately 40 members and
guests were in attendance.
-
John Beck held a Random Access period
inviting members and guests to bring up any questions about the use of
personal computers.
-
Mary Gorski demonstrated a program enabling users to
print their own greeting cards.
-
Fred Sabin, Club President, had new guests
introduce themselves and tell how they found out about the NJCC.
-
Fred reported on an exposition on tablet
PCs that he attended as a guest of Microsoft. He had the opportunity to sit
next to Bill Gates and converse with him. A Microsoft source indicated that MS
currently does demos for groups of 500 or more. But MS is willing to treat
NJCC as an exception, agreeing to do a demo for the Club if the group was at
least 100.
-
Fred discussed the coming Club Holiday
Party on Tuesday, December 17th. He mentioned:
1) REFRESHMENTS – MEMBERSHIP DONATIONS (food, snack or drink) are welcome.
2) $1 CHINESE AUCTION – MEMBERSHIP DONATIONS (Win 95 or later) are sought.
3) $3 (4 for $10) MEMBERSHIP CHINESE AUCTION (for the NJCC Scholarship
Fund) will be held. Donation requests have been made to Microsoft, Adobe
Systems, Symantec, McAfee, PowerQuest, MGI, Quicken/Intuit, DataViz, Aladdin
Systems, Creative Labs, Corel, PeachPit Press, O'Reilly Books, JASC, Logitech,
TravRoute, Borland, Alpha Software, Gobe Software, etc.
-
Election of officers for 2003 was held.
Since no new nominations for NJCC offices were received from the floor, the
present officers, having agreed to stand for reelection, were reelected
without opposition:
| President |
Fred Sabin |
| 1st VP |
Rich Byrne |
| 2nd VP |
John Beck |
| 3rd VP |
Lenny Laich |
| Secretary |
Tom Kehoe |
| Treasurer |
John O’Neill |
| Librarian |
Jim Russ |
-
Fred stressed the need for more volunteers
and mentioned a number of positions open such as publicity and activities
coordinators. Members paying 2003's dues by December 31st of this year will be
charged only $30 for next year rather than the full $36 annual rate.
-
John Beck discussed future programs.
December 17th, the Holiday Party, will also feature a demonstration of music
available on the PC. This will be the only meeting in December. In January
2003, the Club will return to the second and fourth Wednesday meeting format.
Please email him with suggestions of what you would like to see during these
meetings.
-
Sandie Savitz made a presentation on
creating images and transferring them to shirts and other items.
Respectfully submitted,
Tom Kehoe
