Minutes of the March 14, 2001
New Jersey Computer Club Meeting

 

  • Fred Sabin, President, called the meeting of the New Jersey Computer Club to order at the North Branch Reformed Church at 7:15 PM. There were approximately 50 members and guests in attendance. Fred welcomed all in attendance.

 

  • Fred Sabin announced that Edward Ramsey, a Club member, had passed away and that Jim Russ, our Librarian, was recuperating from surgery.

 

  • Fred Sabin announced that he had received a message from Forrest Phillips resigning as NJCC Secretary due to conflicts in making NJCC meetings. The Executive Committee has voted to accept the resignation and appointed Tom Kehoe as NJCC Secretary per NJCC Constitution & By-Laws / Article 5 - Officers - Section 4.

 

  • The Minutes of the last general meeting and the Treasurer's Report, as posted in the Newsletter on the "njcc.org" website, were approved.

 

  • The report of the special Ad Hoc Committee to investigate and recommend a NJCC Scholarship/Award Program in memory of John Huemer, George Porcella, and Ann Yacka was presented by Doris Smith. A Motion was made/seconded & approved that a first grant of $500 be taken from general funds to aid a student or students enrolled in a computer-related training program. An award to a student at Raritan Valley Community College has been mentioned. A scholarship committee will remain in existence to explore ways to raise future funds. Members of this committee include Chairperson Doris Smith, John Biegel, Stephen Emde, Jim Russ, and Fred Sabin, ex officio.

 

  • Fred Sabin cited Phil Corbo for his work making refurbished computers available to non-profit organizations and needy individuals. Letters recognizing Phil's efforts have been received from Alternatives, The ARC of Somerset County, the Bound Brook Lodge of the Elks, the Cooperative Housing Corporation, Intrerfaith Hospitality Network of Somerset County, and the Somerset County Community Development Office.

 

  • Fred Sabin mentioned "Say The Time - Millennium Edition" software from Impaque Technologies <http://www.impaque.com/> which is available on a CD-ROM at a cost of $8 for NJCC members. He also encouraged Club members to bring to his attention software that might be of interest to other members of the Club.

 

  • John Beck reviewed the subjects of future NJCC meetings. On April 18th Doug Beck will give a presentation on the Control Panel in Windows98 and John Beck will discuss Microsoft Excel on April 25th.

 

  • The presentation of this meeting by Rich Byrne examined several interesting features of Microsoft Word.

 

  • The meeting ended at approximately 9:30 PM.
