Minutes of the January 10, 2001
New Jersey Computer Club Meeting

  • Fred Sabin called the meeting of the New Jersey Computer Club to order at the North Branch Reformed Church at 8:00 PM. There were 57 members and guests in attendance.

  • Fred welcomed all in attendance. Guests were introduced.

  • A moment of silence was observed for John Huemer (NJCC Founder / 1st President / Chairman / Past Program Chairman) who died on December 22, 2000. The membership was also informed that John's NJCC Chairman position will be left vacant at this time, and that Doris Smith has been appointed Chairperson of a special Ad Hoc Committee to investigate and recommend a NJCC Scholarship/Award Program in memory of John Huemer, George Porcella, and Ann Yacka.

  • Fred announced that the NJCC Executive Committee had approved the following revision to the NJCC Constitution & By-Laws:

That "Article 3 - MEMBERSHIP - SECTION 1" be changed FROM the current: "Meetings shall be open to the public at no cost." TO the proposed: "Public 'guests' are invited to attend a maximum of two NJCC meetings at no charge, after which they must join the NJCC as 'members' if they wish to attend further meetings and/or participate in NJCC affairs." (NOTE: This is in conformance with ongoing NJCC policy and our IRS 501(c)7 tax exempt filing and approval status. If the NJCC is "open to the general public" we can lose our tax exemption.)

  • This Motion was Made/Seconded & Approved by a majority vote of the regular membership present and entitled to vote. (NOTE: This motion must now be ratified by a two-thirds vote of the regular membership present and entitled to vote at a subsequent meeting within six months of this meeting.)

  • Doug Beck was introduced as the new NJCC Webmaster elected by the Executive Committee.

  • A Motion was Made/Seconded & Approved to approve the Minutes and Treasurer's Report as posted in the Newsletter on the njcc.org website.

  • John Beck was awarded the "Microsoft Office 2000 - Premium Edition" for bringing in the most new paid members in the NJCC Membership Drive.

  • John Beck announced the programs currently scheduled for February and March. Details may be found at the njcc.org website.

  • Two presentations were made by NJCC members. Rich Byrne had an excellent program on Microsoft Word, and Jim Russ & John Beck had an excellent program on Microsoft Excel.

  • The meeting ended at 9:30 PM.

         Respectfully Submitted,

         Fred Sabin, President
