MINUTES OF THE April 23, 2003 MEETING
OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
OF THE NEW JERSEY COMPUTER CLUB
Executive
Committee Members Present: Doug Beck, John Beck, Terry Beck, John Biegel, Rich
Byrne, Tom Kehoe, John O’Neill, Jim Russ, Fred Sabin.
Guests: Stephen Emde, and Madeline Etzold
The
meeting, held at the North Branch Reformed Church, began at 7 P.M.
 |
Fred
Sabin led a discussion on nominations for the NJCC Founders' Memorial Award
Scholarship. Tom Kehoe moved that a $500 scholarship be provided
to a Union County College student who met the applicable criteria. The
motion was passed.
|
 |
NJCC
monthly programs were discussed. The second meeting, on the fourth
Wednesday, will be eliminated, except for special circumstances.
Attendance has been insufficient. It was agreed that getting adequate
publicity was one of the problems. AMD is scheduled to make a
presentation on the May 14th and Dragon Naturally Speaking
by ScanSoft is a possibility for September. Other possible programs
were brought up. Use of individual (non-corporate) presenters appears to be a
solution for filling out the program. Jim Russ, Tom Kehoe, and Stephen
Emde discussed possibilities. John Beck mentioned a church-group that
needs instruction on Front Page. Fred Sabin suggested exploring joint
meetings with other computer-groups.
|
 |
John
Beck made a motion to lower NJCC dues. The motion was for membership
dues to be reduced to $24 a year, except for members paying dues before the first of
the year, who would only have to pay $20. The motion, which is to be
implemented in 2004, was approved.
|
 |
Tom
Kehoe made a motion that the Club purchase a new projector for
presentations. The resolution on the present one does not permit the
projection of the full monitor window on to the screen seen by the
audience. The motion was approved. Jim Russ, in consultation with
others, will recommend a specific projector. Actual purchase of said
projector is contingent on getting the approval of the Executive
Committee through email or at a meeting.
|
 |
Doug Beck indicated
that there were problems with the present Club computer during
presentations. John Biegel made a motion that the Club consider the
purchase a new computer. Doug Beck is to research the specifics and
make a recommendation to President Fred Sabin. The motion carried.

The
meeting was adjourned at 8:43 P.M. Respectfully
submitted,
Tom
Kehoe
