MINUTES OF THE
SEPTEMBER
5, 2001 MEETING
OF THE
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
OF THE NEW
JERSEY COMPUTER CLUB
Present: Doug
Beck, John Beck, Terry Beck, John Biegel, Rich Byrne, Phil Corbo, Stephen Emde, Tom Kehoe, Lenny Laich, John O’Neill, Jim Russ, Fred
Sabin, and Doris Smith.
The
meeting was called to order at the North Branch Reformed Church by
Fred Sabin.
-
Doris Smith presented a detailed report on fund-raising activities for the
NJCC "Founders' Memorial Award." The Computer Yard Sale of August 18,
2001 was a great success. The Club received $2676.95 from the sale and
donations. A few expenses remain to be paid. A general discussion of how to use
these funds ensued. Two motions were made and approved by the Executive
Committee:
1.
Approval of the general membership will be sought to use $500 of the new
memorial funds for the previously awarded 2001 scholarship at Raritan Valley
Community College (RVCC). This amount will then be returned to general Club
funds from which it was drawn.
2.
Approval of the general membership will be sought to donate $500 to the
non-profit Cooperative Housing Corporation. Without the use of storage space at Cooperative
Housing Corporation sites, it would not have been possible to continue the
NJCC charitable computer refurbishment program or hold the yard
sale.
-
The
meeting on October 17th at Raritan Valley Community College, at which
Microsoft's WindowsXP will be demoed, was discussed. Fred
Sabin will provide coordination with RVCC. John Beck will provide coordination
with Microsoft. Publicity and other needs were discussed. Fred Sabin was
authorized to spend up to $300 for refreshments for that night. Fred explained
that part of the reason for this imposing amount was that at RVCC affairs one
has to use an official food vendor.
-
Nominations for 2002 Officers will be made at the November general meeting.
Rich Giorgi has resigned as Membership Chairperson. Rich was praised for his
devoted service. Discussion on filling that
post ensued. Terry Beck, after making a presentation on what she would do
as Membership Chairperson, was appointed by Fred Sabin per the NJCC Constitution
and By-Laws and unanimously approved by the Executive Committee as the new
Membership Chairperson. Priority will be given to
updating the membership list in an Excel or Access format.
-
Phil Corbo led a discussion of future NJCC charitable work. He sought the
appointment of a committee to recommend funding for purchase of parts for
refurbishing computers and for other needs. Stephen Emde was appointed to head
such a committee, with Phil Corbo and John Biegel as other committee
members.
Respectfully
Submitted,
Tom
Kehoe, Secretary
